Beginning this December, Rail Tales will no longer host gaming on Saturdays. Instead, we will be open for public gaming on Sundays from 12 pm to 8 pm. Although the store will officially close at 6 pm, staff will remain on site to allow games to continue until at least 8 pm.

Sunday October 18: Rail Tales will be hosting an operating session of the Jefferson Railroad module club starting at 1 pm. Most likely, trains will start moving around 2 pm as it takes time to set up. Persons interested in DCC systems and train operations in general are welcome to observe and possibly participate. This session runs until 4pm or so.
Wednesday October 21: Rail Tales will host the monthly meeting of the Charlottesville Model Club starting at 6 pm.
Sunday October 25: Rail Tales will host the Battle for Zendicar Games Day. Registration starts at 11 am and the event starts at noon. You will need a deck list. There is a $5 fee to pay for prize support. The store will remain open for regular business.

We are closing to normal traffic so that we can re-arrange the store temporarily in order to make room for the anticipated popularity of this event. All month: Rail Tales has been commissioned to build a series of dioramas for the National Revolutionary War Museum being built in Philadelphia. We will continue work this month on the components of the first of these dioramas: Knox’s “Noble Train of Artillery”.

Saturday August 1st: The Virginia Train Collectors meet will be held at the Elk’s Lodge on Stony Point Road from 9 am to 3 pm. This promises to be a great show and we hope you railroad fans out there can make it. We will have several layouts on hand including our latest rebuild of our O scale (formerly known as Coal and Oil). Attendees can receive a flyer from our booth good for 10% off your purchase until 7 pm this day only.
Sunday August 9th: Rail Tales will be hosting a Game’s Day Magic the Gathering Tournament. Entry fee is still only $5. Registration starts at 11 and the even starts at noon. As always, bring a deck list. The format is TBA.
Saturday August 15: Rail Tales will hold a structure and vehicle weathering demonstration from 2 pm to 4 pm. We will be demonstrating our usual techniques using washes, drybrushing, powders, and stains plus due to popular demand, we will also show some airbrushing with the new Badger 360 system.
Wednesday August July 19: The monthly meeting of the Charlottesville Model Club will be held at our usual 6 pm start time. The club has started its ‘tank build’ and had a good time learning airbrushing and weathering powders last month. This month there will be a demonstration of basic brass soldering techniques (hopefully) as well as more assembly and painting.

Bret Jones will be presenting a clinic on detailing and weathering modern rail cars (mostly this means adding graffiti) including basic airbrush work.
Sunday July 12: Rail Tales will be hosting a pre-release tournament for Magic the Gathering: Origins. Registration starts at 11 am and the tournament starts at 12. We have a certain number of free play mats to give away to persons who pre-register.
Wednesday July 15: The monthly meeting of the Charlottesville Model Club will be held at our usual 6 pm start time. The club has started its ‘tank build’. This month there will be a demonstration of basic airbrush and weathering powder techniques.
Saturday July 18: Rail Tales will hold an Airbrushing demonstration from 2 pm to 4 pm. We will be demonstrating the new Badger 360 system and will allow attendees to try their hand with the remarkable new airbrush.
Sunday July 26: The Jefferson Railroad Module Club will hold an operating session from 1 pm until approximately 4 pm. This is our first actual operating session with everything hooked up so it may be a little ‘start-and-stop but it will also be instructive to those new to the hobby as to all the things to take into account when designing and operating a model railroad. We will be using the NCE radio system to control the layout.

All month: We are building a layout to be installed in a local hotel and this will by our primary project for the rest of the month. The schedule for this layout is tight and it will be complete down to the last figure and sign.

January 18th– Rail Tales will be hosting a Pre-Release for Magic the Gathering: Fate Reforged. Registration the day of the event starts at 11:00 am and the event starts at noon. The event costs $24.99, which includes the pre-release box, five booster packs of Fate Reforged and one clan specific booster. We are accepting pre-registration and the first 15 persons to register will receive a free play mat. Prize support varies with attendance.
